Work Overview

Partly inspired by one of Picasso's most beautiful cubist works, Girl with a Mandolin, this work represents a sort of imaginary ballet. It could be that the mandolin in the picture comes to life and dances under a full moon. Overjoyed at his new freedom he sings a serenade to the girl in the painting. For some reason she does not respond?

This, of course, is a purely fanciful notion that only occurred to me after writing the piece, but it does fit the mood and temperament of what I was trying to achieve: a dance, a serenade and the unique voice of the mandolin.
