Work Overview
"The Espérance and the Recherche were frigates of the French Navy, launched in 1781 and were both involved the early exploration of the West Australian coastline under the command of Bruni d'Entrecasteaux. The Australian town of Esperance and Esperance Bay in West Australia were named after the Espérance and Recherche Bay, Tasmania and the Recherche Archipelago, Western Australia were named after the Recherche.
Espérance is one of the two French words that can be translated into "hope", the other being "espoir". The latter is closer to the idea of "dream" or "fantasy" and recherché means "carefully sought out," from chercher, "to search."
These are qualities that have been sadly lacking in our world at present, The idea of this work is to uplift spirits and give us back something of the dreams and hopes of those early explorers?"
