Work Overview
James Koehne writes...
Exotica Suite is a delight for those to whom Bert Kaempfert, Hatari! and Hugo Montenegro are naturally accepted as contributors to the 20th Century musical canon, not to mention the inimitable presence of the less widely-known creator of 1950's Hawaiian bar music, Martin Denny. It features a large exotic and orchestral percussion section allowing a vast dynamic range of different timbres and textures. The music varies dramatically in pace and style; often it is intensely melodic employing a complex network of cyclic melodies and rhythms. His highly skilled ensemble tackles anything from fiery contrapuntal duets to 'incredibly strange' South Sea ambiences and 'jungle' rhythms.
