Work

The Prophet : Seven Movements for choir (SATB / SSA / SAB) and solo singers (mezzo and baritone)

by Judith Clingan and Kahlil Gibran (2024)

Work Overview

The Prophet consists of seven short movements, each with its own vocal and instrumental forces:
1. LOVE: SATB choir, strings
2. MARRIAGE: SSA choir, lyre or classical guitar
3. CHILDREN: SAB choir, recorder trio including child, percussion
4. WORK: Unison voices, tuned and untuned percussion
5. GIVING: SAB choir, flute, cello
6. SELF-KNOWLEDGE: solo mezzo, solo baritone, clarinet, bass guitar, chordal guitar
7. GOD: SAB choir, strings, recorders, flute, clarinet, guitar, bells.

Ideally the seven movements are performed as an entirety, in this order; however, individual movements could be performed alone or in different groupings. The premiere performances in July-August 2025 in Australia and New Zealand added costumed drama and eurythmy.
