The Open Sky : For Sax, Viola, Didje, Keyboard, Bass & Percussion x 2 / Romano Crivici.
Library shelf no. 785.3416/CRI 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
The Open Sky, extracted from its original setting in Yamatji Man (performed in 2012) and renamed, now stands alone as a separate work. The didjeridu is now a strand, albeit an important one, within the multi-cultural tapestry that reflects something of my own conflicted identity.
A mostly notated work, but with ample opportunities for contemporary cross-cultural jazz ensembles to express themselves. Starting with a very still introductory adagio section, it moves into an exultant groove movement, before concluding with a short hymn-like reprise of the opening.
Blessed be the sax and didjeridu, and long may s/he/they sing and exult the expanse and eternity of the sky, if the spirit so moves them.
