Work Overview

Though the original latin translation for "Grace Alone" is "Sola Gratia", the title of the work is in fact a word play on the piece being a solo piano work for Grace Francis. Solo Gratia was inspired by the Apostle Paul's letter to the Ephesians in the New Testament.

This work is in two sections which evoke a dramatically different mood and set out to depict a progression from darkness to light. The slow and ruminative opening of dissonant chords span a wide register, vast and disconnected. With the introduciton of gradually brighter harmonies and melody, a change in tempo and atmosphere leads into the contrasting second section, reflecting restoration and hope.
