Work Overview
Meetings at the Table of Time is a work for members of the Australian Art Orchestra and Carnatic music ensemble Sruthi Laya. It was premeired in India during the Two Oceans tour in November 2012 for the Hindu Fest to rave reviews and standing ovations at every concert. The work seeks to integrate ideas and aesthetics from jazz and Carnatic music into a unified whole with depth and integrity, while encouraging freedom of expression in composition and improvisation. Rhythmic principles that are sources of innovation in contemporary practice in both Carnatic music and jazz are explored as platforms for collaboration.
