Work Overview
I composed Corona for Solo Viola for two main reasons: first, to thank my Roumanian friend, the virtuoso violist Cornelia Petroiu, for the fine performances she has given of my earlier work Voilà for Viola and Piano, and secondly to show that the viola, with its mellow voice and tendency to sound melancholy, is also capable of playing passages requiring great agility and vigorous attack.
