Notes from the Borigove : a series of works exploring music and human vocalisation / John Arthur Grant.
Library shelf no. 782.55542/GRA 9 [Available for loan]
Three pieces for choir, with a suggested order, but they could also be performed individually, together as a suite in any order, or interspersed with other items. Rather than a formal text, syllables and vocalisations are used as sound sources.
These works make much use of the intervals of a minor third and semitone, continuing my fascination.
Instrumentation: Mixed choir, 4- and 5-part, preferably 20+ performers.
Duration: 11 min.
Difficulty: Medium — Slow movements are of medium difficulty, fast movement is more advanced.
Contents note: 1. Dee-oo-ah (for 4-part choir, SATB ; Soft and gentle) -- 2. Ka-dl-ah-du (for 5-part choir, S, A, "middle", T, B. The "middle" group is a mixed section, male/female alto/tenor, but could also be entirely altos or tenors, depending on available singers ; Should be performed with short, sharp syllables and high energy, and with a light-hearted sense of fun) -- 3. Du-ma-lo (for 4-part choir, SATB ; Soft and gentle, but a little louder than the first piece).
Written for: Astra Choir
