Work Overview
With a dreamy, nostalgic and melancholic character, Danza del Anhelo encourages the flautist to showcase their lyrical and expressive playing, whilst challenging them with its 3+3+2 pulse division.
When first approaching the piece, attention should be given to rhythmic accuracy throughout the piece.
Milongas are a type of folk dance from Argentina (on which the modern tango is based). They were influenced by the Habanera and Mazurka (among other dances). There are several types of Milonga - the Milonga SureƱa comes from the southern rural areas of Argentina and is characterised by its slower legato rhythmic feel and lyrical melodic qualities.
