Work Overview

A site specific work for the Narrows Bridge underpass over Mounts Bay Road. Two movements exploring ideas of (non)striated space and (de)colonization. Influenced by Deleuze and Guitarri's idea of 'nomad space'. A final movement pointing to how this might be problematic.

The space offers an intersection of different modes of spacial division. These include roads, paths, cycle paths and train lines. These can be experienced as a sound installation. The piece explores ideas of 'striated space' and 'not-striated' space.

In the first movement performers move through five sections. They first play in strict rhythm in 12 tone equal temperament. The rigidity eases over then next few sections until.

The second movement invites responses to the sounds. The second movement is a text scores repeated with less and less words, ending with 'lines'.

Section three performs an admission of failure. Pointing to the futility of a white person attempting decolonization with poststructuralist theory. Musically open.
