Work Overview
Aporia is a state of bewilderment, of not being sure of the path (poria) forward. It is the state Socrates induced in his students by his questions. I first grappled musically with this concept in Piano Sonata No.3 (2016). In Aporia II, two "tribes" respond to an initial event as if in a state of aporia. The pitch row C-A-G-E-D begins and ends the work.
