Work Overview
Mappa explores themes of wayfaring and the contemplative processes of thread making through improvisation and movement. Forming connections between social fabric, community, connection, women's history and our deep connection with the earth, through the transformation of plants into fabric, the work invites the audience into a world where exploring is encouraged and perceptions are challenged.
Fiona Hill and Miranda Wheen have devised an work and environment where the boundaries between movement and sound are blurred and artists are encouraged to draw on their own practice to create a magical transformation of the performance space: knotting, tying, weaving, threading, twisting, spinning and winding sound and materials to bind and to build.
Mappa comes from the Latin word for linen, referring to the fabric on which the first maps were drawn.
