Score & Part
3 Dances from 'The Circumnavigator' / Fred Hill.
Library shelf no. 788.92/HIL 2 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
The 3 Dances from The Circumnavigator are drawn from the score of my first opera, 'The Circumnavigator' which is a dramatisation of the failed round-the-world solo voyage of Donald Crowhurst (not so indicated in the opera) and his subsequent demise. Movement 1 represents his fragmented state of mind at the chaotic state of his boat coupled with his dreams of future glory. Movement 2 depicts the boundless aspect of sky and ocean in which he is becalmed. In movement 3 he finds himself in a beach carnival somewhere in South America where he has (illegally!) made landfall.
