Work Overview
The three pieces in this publication provide chamber music repertoire for guitarists that have achieved a level equal to or above AMEB grade four. Guitars 1 and 2 in particular require a good knowledge of the standard arpeggios and chords in 'guitar' keys. Each piece may be played as a trio or with multiple guitarists on each voice. The optional bass part may be added at the performers' discretion. The works were conceived as guitar trios, and the bass line was added once the guitar parts were complete. The bass usually doubles, an octave down, the lower voice of the trio - that is - it is rarely independent. Double bass played pizzicato, electric or acoustic bass guitars, or a cello will add depth to the texture of the ensemble. The bass part is also provided in the treble clef so that a guitarist unfamiliar with the bass clef may use a bass guitar.
