Work Overview
We don't make scores for this music. We work together using improvisation to develop ideas.
Daniel dreams new songs and weaves them into our musical settings.
Daniel says: 'I want to share my songs and my culture with people all over the world and collaborate with musicians from all over the world.' 'The crow (waak waak) flies over the land, watching the people, joining in with other songs, flying from the sea inland to the billabong. This is a new song we are singing with Hand to Earth and Amalia.'
We divided the songs from the songline up into different 'scenes' for this concert rehearsing with Amalia for four days ahead of the event. Even though the music is not scored and features improvised elements, a lot of it is tightly structured.
The process of its development was very organic. We all took our own individual notes so that we could recall specific elements, and the recordings we made during rehearsal became an important reference.
