Work Overview
This arrangement of Stephen Lalor's 'Ballade', for standard guitar quartet, is designed for student-level players. It has been designed to be straightforward to learn, with each instrument playing a defined role, yet also giving each part interest and a range of instrumental techniques which are simple to produce - harmonics, tasto, ponte etc - in a clear, modal language. Above all, it uses a piece (whch has been performed and recorded in several forms) to give newer players experience of reading and playing in an ensemble.
As a guide, performers and teachers can refer to various online video performances of the piece.
'Guitar Quartet Ballade' is to be played in as expressive and relaxed a style as possible.
