The Present Makes Relevant the Past / Evan Lawson.

Work Overview
This work was written for a concert of Baroque and improvised music, leading me to explore the nature of music and sound itself-how it emerges, captures our attention, and then immediately fades into the past, becoming memory. In this intimate piece, I sought to create a mysterious and evocative texture between these two instruments, echoing and chanting to each other in their lowest registers. These ideas melt into one another before dissolving into the second movement, where the performers are free to improvise and experiment with key themes from the first movement. This process reflects how music and sound resonate and wander through our memory.
