Work Overview

Song Web has taken on a life of its own, as the third movement of a larger percussion piece, Sticks and Stones. The haunting overtones from mushroom sticks on the marimba require great control from the percussionist to create a sublime listening experience. It is based on seeing a web of sticks, a curtain suspended without artifice in the middle of the room - an amazing Adelaide Festival 1992 sculpture by Andy Goldsworthy, UK sculptor who had spent time in South Australia. Both works give us pause to think of the humble stick and its very artistic qualities!

This piece has been played in Poland and Germany many times as Ryszard Pusz enjoys sharing this piece of Australiana with others around the world.
