Work

Notes : for mezzo-soprano and string quartet

by Christine McCombe (2000)

Work Overview

An Opera of Clouds (2002) is a mixed media chamber work incorporating voice and chamber ensemble, electroacoustic soundscapes and video projections. The work takes as its basis a series of poems by Australian writer Alison Croggon. Three spoken texts deal with the idea of Angels - not as stereotypical cherubic figures but Angels as awesome and sometimes vengeful beings. These figures represent a kind of observer of our human existence - a presence that is felt and sensed rather than seen. Notes is a song setting for mezzo soprano and string quartet that forms part of the larger work.
