Work Overview

Summary: 'Paris dreaming': Herb Wharton grew up as part of an Aboriginal community on the outskirts of town in rural Queensland. At 12 he became a drover, and lived and worked as a stockman for 40 years. He now writes books drawn from his outback experiences. Kaye Mortley also grew up in rural Australia. A writer's residency took Herb to Paris, where the two met. They walked and talked around Paris; between the lines Herb's story of disposession, displacement and relocation unfolded. With the voices of Herb Wharton, Anna Mortley and Aoife Desmond, and 'Poor fella my country', written and sung by Ted Egan.
