The Princess and the cello alliance (quartets: 4 cellos)

by John Nottle (2016)

Work Overview

The Princess and the Cello Alliance begins with a cavatina -a short song-like section, exploring modality in a contrapuntal style that allows each voice to express itself lyrically. The 2nd section is more robust and technically challenging. However, the 4th voice has been deliberately kept as simple as the music will allow in order that a student, or students, of a lesser technical ability can participate in the ensemble.
