Work Overview
With Seven Nailed Sorrows was inspired by this line of poetry from Journey by Federico Garcia Lorca. It was originally written for Elision Ensemble in 1988 and arranged for the Melbourne Symphony Contemporary Players in 1992. The composition is associated with the impressionistic, sometimes surreal ideas that permeated Pollard's works at that time. The link to Lorca's poem can be heard through the long melodic lines and intricate textures shadowing the 'sound' narrative of the poem which creates an ever-present and rather ominous, shimmering resonance.
