Score [ePDF]
Scherzetto a Due : [eScore] / Claudio Pompili.
Work Overview
This work was composed in June 1980 whilst studying composition with Richard Meale, Bozidar Kos, and Tristram Cary in the first year of my BMus degree at the Elder Conservatorium, University of Adelaide.
The composition was written within a month of the Trio and was intended to feature the homogeneity of two wind reed instruments, Oboe and Fagotto. I aimed for hocket interplay, instrumental gestures, and chiaroscuro.
This piece has a clear pre-composition structure and uses a 12-tone matrix.
In March 2023, reviewing this early Scherzetto, showed that the characteristics of my compositional style were evident in June 1980. The hallmarks are the instrumental interplay, music gestures, virtuosity of musical performances, and varied dynamic profiles.
