Work Overview
Jan Kemp's poem was written in response to Bob Fosse's 1979 movie, All That Jazz. I wrote the music immediately, not in a jazz style but more in the style of 1930's cabaret music. The first performance was by Nia Pryde, with me at the piano, in Hong Kong in 1984. Jan revised the poem, and I the music, in 2024.
