Work Overview

Tresno is an opera in movement composed by Jacqui Rutten, with her own made up language and one line of text by Michael Leunig: "Growth is troubled and tender". Musically, the piece is influenced by Javanese gamelan, which the composer studied with the assistance of Australia and Indonesia. The work is also influenced by opera, particularly baroque opera. Douglas Horton directed the original production with design by Trina Parker.
