Work Overview
Five Ibis in Flight is divided into three sections. The piece is inspired by my interactions with Sydney's unofficial avian mascot. The first section depicts them soaring from their tree nests around central station and Prince Alfred Park. They turn and glide and somewhat awkwardly perch on the buildings and branches I can see from my apartment window. The second section depicts them after flooding rains return the park to the wetland it was years before urbanisation. Wading in the water, they flick their beaks and search for food far away from any bins. The third section is a sombre and restful resolution. The full life cycle of the ibis comes to a peaceful end.
