Work Overview
Like living stones is one of three motets commissioned by the Reverend Matthew Williams and St James' Old Cathedral, Melbourne as part of celebrations marking the 175th Anniversary of the laying of the church's foundation stone. It combines texts from Haggai and 1 Peter, juxtaposed; the Haggai text settings are influenced by Randall Thompson's The Peaceable Kingdom, with its jagged and dramatic prophecies from Isaiah, while the text from 1 Peter offers a soothing invitation to "Come to Jesus".
Suitable for church patronal festivals, foundation services, and other occasions.
