Work Overview
I recently met a friend of my late godmother Aunty Carmel who was one of her high school friends and also a church organist. She told me that my godmother and her and a group of their friends used to take a road trip every summer in the school holiday period in the early 1950s and stay at a friends property in Bowral. They would jump in the reservoirs, run crazy around the property and share stories all night long. She said that she cherished this break with her friends, as she finally found time where all she was responsible for was her own enjoyment and relaxation. This sentiment is so incredibly important to me, especially in my current lifestyle. These days I find myself consumed in my work that I always forget to take time out and rest. This piece for organ and oboe is a nostalgic echo of summers past with a reminder that is never a bad thing to take a break and appreciate life and people around you.
