Work Overview

This composition inspired by Australian nature, its flora and fauna and dedicated to a specific part of the Australian landscape: Wallum country (South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales).

It is a place for birds and a great wilde untouched. The Humpback whales come up sometimes from the Pacific ocean close to the shores of 'Moreton island' and 'Hinchinbrook Islands'.. The tropical 'curlew' bird cries like a child in the middle of the night in a full moon...

It is an atmospheric place, a tribute to a far away Australia.

The piece opens up with a 'whale sound' by Double Basses, the 'random bird calls' in violins depict the sounds of the seagulls, honeyeaters and curlews ..

Sonorius melodies carried by violins and with soft harmonic glissandi gives feel to a tropical breeze setting.

Right in the middle of the piece there is a 'suprise' element..the ceremonial curlews dance, with eerie, high pitched calls and tapping of their feet as they dance.

As the whale swims south from the Great Barrier Reef, she leaves behind a great Wallum country and swims towards Atlantic.
