Work Overview
These short songs follow a carefully graded sequence of pitch and rhythm concepts, alternating between simple and compound metres. Within the octave above middle C, they gradually introduce notes drawn from the C major, D minor, E minor, F major, G major, and A minor pentatonic scales. Each exercise is preceded by a solfa warm-up to establish tonality.
The four-part piano accompaniments are easily adaptable for Orff instruments (Melody/Soprano/Alto/Bass).
The Hebrew text (Psalm 119) is transliterated using Ashkenazic pronunciation; its use is entirely optional for non-Hebrew speakers.
