Work Overview
A jazz influence has rubbed off on this work. The ostinato 'groove' and melody at the beginning of the second movement was originally intended for a big band composition, and this was the original base material for the first two movements. Having composed the second movement first, I then composed the first movement as a prelude. As the piece begins, it does not overtly allude to jazz, but the ostinato 'groove' by the end of the first movement begins to show the jazz influence.
The third movement is an arrangement and recomposition of a jazz-miniature I had previously composed for piano. It is fast, energetic and exciting, intended to keep both performers and listeners on their toes.
