Work Details

Year: 1997

Instrumentation: SSA choir, percussion (3 players).

The textual ideas were developed in collaboration with Rosalind McGrath for songs One and Two, whereas Three is an adaptation of lines from 'The Opal', a poem written by William Porter-Young. The fourth song is a collage of mnemonic sounds ... and Indian pitch sounds.

The song text is not indigenous, but rather a collage including the following: classical Indian pitch names sa, re, ni; Brazilian conga drum pattern names, goo, ba, kin. West African percussion mnemonics dzi dza; and di-te-re-mo, vocables sung into a didjeridu for articulation purposes.

This is the 4th movt of the work Songs for Imberombera.
