Work Overview

The main motif, originally called Warriors Ascending, I had composed 8 years ago while busking with my father in the Blue Mountains. I wish to dedicate this piece to the Gandangara and Dharug and the community that supported my father and I in the Blue Mountains. The inflections in the bass lines were inspired by my father's didgeridoo playing. The landscape of the Gandangara and the Dharug has inspired me so much in my lifetime. I only see that this music is about these tribes and mine joining together, and the Blue Mountains (as I was taught) was a meeting place for many tribes in Australia and still is to this day. The Blue Mountains guide us and the spirit of both Dharug and Gandangara is present. The land of the Gandangara continues into the Kangaroo Valley where it joins with my mother's tribe - the Yuin. This valuable information as taught by my father has greatly inspired my spirituality.
