Instrumentation: 3 clarinets in B flat, bass clarinet in B flat.Flexible instrumentation. Substitute parts: alto saxophone 1 for clarinet 1; alto saxophone 2 or tenor saxophone 1 for clarinet 2; bassoon 1, horn in F or tenor saxophone 2 for clarinet 3; bassoon 2 or baritone saxophone for bass clarinet. Can also be performed with more than one player per part.
