Work Overview
The Artamidae bird family is confined to the Australian region with eight varieties in Australia. They are among the finest of song birds and sing often in duet, almost the year round. This piano solo is an impression of three small black and white butcher birds calling to one another from the treetops in the composer's garden in the early morning sunshine. The three individual birdcalls form the introduction of the piece and the music is then woven around these calls.
