Work Overview
The work evolved as a sort of neo-classical "concerto grosso" particularly in its outer movements with their 'concertino' and 'ripieno' exchanges. The thematic material though, is of a much more romantic and rhapsodic nature with the last movement given to the exploration of a particular syncopated rhythm. The slow movement is nocturne featuring some "night" sounds of the Australian bush; frogs, cicadas and crickets. A melancholy 'night' song takes us from dark 'stillness' to rapture and light.
