Work Overview

Figure 8 was commissioned by the Cranbrook Guitar Orchestra in Sydney and first performed in 1993. The work features the use of motifs that are idiomatic to the fretboard and melodies that explore the full scope of the guitar ensemble from the low range of the acoustic bass guitar to the high range of the transposing requinto guitars. The title refers to the time signature and the recurring rhythm of quavers grouped in the form 3+3+2.
