Work Overview

Part of my inspiration in writing music is a strong belief in stories and legends and I have often taken Aboriginal myths as a starting point for works. Among their many Dreamtime ancestors were Irria, Inungamella and Ilpailurkna who were potent rainmakers; beings whose magical gifts could make the barren deserts bloom with wildflowers!

These legends, together with the actual sound of raindrops, are what this piece is about. I have tried to explore the sound of rain falling on various surfaces and its 'randomness'. Although the work opens with the very un-Australian sounds of the "Rainstick", this somehow captured the whole ambience that I was after. It is a revealing, a flowering if you like.
