Work Overview
This work was written for a contemporary music workshop run by the group 'Music Performed' in Sydney. It was conceived for a string orchestra of small to medium size (6,6,4,6,1) with the soloist amplified.
The work has two elements - the first is a dark brooding nocturnal theme and the other, a sort of 'aria type' serenade. It is one of those tunes which might well come from some Italian opera where the tenor sings below the balcony of his beloved.
The piece was initially modelled on the Malcolm Williamson's Serenade which is also for guitar and strings.
