Work Overview

A Pas De Deux is a dramatic yet tender work which follows the heartfelt journey of two young lovers. Set in Hiroshima in 1945, the lovers dance together, enjoying a blossoming romance when tragically all taken away in an instant.

This piece is a memory that the lead character Osamu has of his tragic past. He remembers the time on August 6, 1945 when he and his young love were dancing a pas de deux on a beach. The freedom enjoyed by these young lovers was short lived as the bomb that was dropped claimed one of their lives, eternally scarred the other and devastated the natural environment around them. Despite the trauma of this tragedy, Osamu cherishes the memory of the happiness he felt before his life changed forever.

A Pas De Deux is a ballet composed by Charody for her large scale operatic musical Morning Blossoms. Morning Blossoms was commissioned by Dutch arts organisation ODD Continent in 2014. A Pas De Deux was choreographed for the 2016 Morning Blossoms national tour by choreographer Remi Wortmeyer.
