Jazzoon : for solo bassoon [eScore] / Lisa Cheney
Work Overview
As the name suggests, Jazzoon is written in a predominately Jazz style and seeks to engage with performers in the early to intermediate stages of their learning. The work employs the use of Swing and utilises displaced accents, triplets and a variety of articulations to strengthen syncopation. Jazzoon also offers the performer a taste of two other contemporary musical styles, in bars 25 to 30 with a 'Rock' beat, whilst bars 38 to 44 touch on a 'Blues' structure. Jazzoon was written at the request of Sophie Rhee and seeks to positively add to a lack of contemporary solo bassoon repertoire for early to intermediate performers
