Work Overview
This work was commissioned for the activities commemorating the founding of the town of Richmond, Tasmania. The instrumentation reflects the historical and the modern, violin and voice combining with saxophone, drums, bass and keyboard.
The 3 movements describe the journey from the arrival of the first colonists and the expulsion of the mumarimina people from their land, through the toil and industry, persistence and ambition which saw Richmond become one of the most significant of Australia's early colonial settlements. The work ends with a celebration of the bounty we enjoy today and a message of hope for continued peace and prosperity.
