Work Overview

This piece was created on the Fairlight CMI at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Electronic Music Studio. The work was recorded in layers on 8-track tape using a number of differing sound sources, eg. marimba and chimes. These were transformed by the CMI to resemble very different sounds - the marimba for example was stretched out to sound like a violin. Bessemer was the inventor of the all-important process whereby iron is converted to steel - a process characterised by very dramatic bursts of sparks and thunderous sounds.
