Lou Andreas Salome was Nietzsche's muse, the lover of Rilke, confidante of Sigmund and Anna Freud, and celibate wife of the linguist, Friedrich Andreas. In her own right she was a successful author of fiction and a renowned psychoanalyst. She was one of the most remarkable women of the early twentieth century. Slips traces her development from muse to pioneering feminist.
