Work

The Ear that Listens Back : for flute, clarinet and piano

by Nirmali Fenn (2026)

Work Overview

When we listen to music, we often listen for what comes next. While writing The Ear That Listens Back, I discovered another way of listening that notices what is still here: sounds that linger, echoes that remain, small traces that continue to shape the music.

Writing this piece felt unexpectedly healing for me. It made me wonder whether listening itself can be a way of caring for something, a way of staying rather than letting things rush by. As you listen, I invite you simply to be present with the sounds. Notice what returns, what lingers, and what transforms.
