Work Overview

A Hymn for Saint Brigid was commissioned by the Fondazione Donne in Musica in Italy, for the 700th anniversary of the birth of Saint Brigid in 1302. The celebrations for Saint Brigid, the founder of the Brigidine Order, were held in Rome and the Vatican City in October 2002, in combination with a symposium focussing on the role of women as composers of sacred music.

The text is a Latin poem written in praise of Saint Brigid in 1391, not long after her death.
