Work Overview
On Saturday April 13, there was a stabbing at the closest shopping centre next to my house. A man murdered six people by stabbing them with a knife inside the shopping mall at about 3:20pm. I had left the shopping centre only two hours beforehand. The man was shot dead by the police.
This act was clearly one that was not targeted, and marks another act of violence against women, as almost all civilians attacked were women.
Ashlee Good and her nine-month old baby were among those attacked. Ashlee saved her daughter Harriet after they were both stabbed, handing her daughter to two shoppers before we lost Ashlee later in the hospital.
This work is one of both physical and emotional endurance. It unpacks the final sounds Ashlee Good heard of her child: ones of screaming, breathlessness and crying.
My extended thanks to the Good family for allowing this work to be created.
