Work Overview
Influenced by my travels through India, Thailand and Laos in
2008, and my ongoing interest in Japanese music and traditions, I
composed this work in 2010 using pitch content from Indian and
Japanese traditions, combining them to create the work. The
Japanese concept of ma, or the space between events, is also an
important device used in this piece and thought should be given
when learning and performing the work, to this
idea. Despite the metering of the piece, this should be played
quite freely with sensitivity throughout.
