Work Overview

A transcription (or perhaps transmutation) of a small part of Ornette Coleman's Lonely Woman from The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959). Lonely Woman was a relatively early and highly influential piece on my work as a musician, particularly the interplay between Coleman's saxophone and Don Cherry's cornet. For what is an idiomatic but otherwise not especially confronting melody, the tension and consequent beauty from that interplay is remarkable. Coleman more broadly was a significant influence through less idiomatic improvisation practices, as many others have been, and so Orr Net offers a chance for me to re-connect with these musics after a long time removed.
